Farmer's Wife Quilt-a-Long Block 10, 15 and 31

I am currently one block behind on the quilt-a-long and I skipped a block because I am not planning on making all of the blocks and I have already omitted the ones I like the least.  I am getting better at piecing, still mistakes but I am enjoying the process.

WIP :: 01.25.12

Today I am low on pictures and projects!  I seem to be very busy lately and my crafting time has been limited.  It is all good.  I have put down the needle and thread and just hung out with my dear children a few nights.  Other nights they are in sports and all the other things that keep us busy in life.

I have made a resolution to only start new projects if they are necessary until I have checked off some from my current Work In Progress (WIP) list.  However, my version of necessary must be a little loose because I have added two new projects since making my resolution, ha.   In my previous editions of WIP Wednesday I have limited my lists, I am not sure why.  Today I am going to attempt to list everything that I have started and need to finish!

First up, FINISHES
I did complete a project, but only because I changed directions with it.  First I started with a scrappy square, then a week or two went by and it became a star, last week it made its final transformation and became a pillow.  I decided I should practice my free motion quilting, plus I had a small amount of purple minky dot that matched perfectly with my scrap fabric.  Perfect for the back of the pillow.  I love it.  It is on my daughter's bed right now, but I think it would look better on my bed.  We will have to figure it out.  I may attempt better pictures of it in my bedroom soon.

Plain Spoken Quilt - The final arrangement is made and I have all my rows sewn and 5 of them together.

Farmer's Wife - I have a couple more blocks done.  I will share later this week.

Nearly Hexagon Charm Quilt - I have about 750 hexies done.  I am in a swap right now and I need the fabric in order to continue.  I think when it is all said and done I may be 100 fabrics short.  I will have to figure this out!

Flurry Wall Quilt
Terrain Wall Hanging - I have been working on the plans for this one in my head.  I have a habit of starting projects without having the full picture in my head.  I find it exciting as it comes together.

Master Bedroom Curtains - I have curtains that I almost like, I need to rework them.
Slipcover For Playroom Couch - I started, but have not finished.  I really need to do this.
Rag Quilt - I started this November 2010.  I am over 1/2 way done.
Wedding Gift - This will be matching pillows.
Special Occasion Gift
Knit Hat - should be interesting as I am a complete beginner.
Crochet Hanging Basket - This is started, but is coming out way smaller than I thought...
Other necessary items that my family needs.

Farmer's Wife Quilt-a-Long Block 4 & 6

I was falling behind on the quilt-a-long (see button on my sidebar) because I had been waiting for my Farmer's Wife book to arrive.  It did, now I have a few blocks to do to catch up.  Including redoing my original two blocks.  I am so glad I have the book now.  The diagrams of the block construction are helpful AND my templates are the right size.  I used templates from the internet for my first blocks and I couldn't get them to print correctly.  I am very pleased with:

Work In Progress :: 01.11.12

Today I don't have any great finishes to show you.  Actually, I have no finishes.  Usually I work on a few smaller projects on top of what I have been including in this post, but not this week.

None. If you want to check out my daughter's new crochet doll have a look here.

Plain Spoken Quilt - Yes, I finally made significant progress here.

On the weekend I laid all my blocks out only to realize that I needed 24 more.  I pieced together the top two rows, but was unable to continue until I completed the last blocks.  They are done now.
I just need to find the time to arrange them and sew away!

Flurry Wall Quilt - I slipped in another couple blocks here too.  I want to keep picking away at it so I don't have a UFO (Unfinished Object) next Christmas.  Here are the 4 blocks I have completed so far.

Nearly Hexagon Charm Quilt - I did complete a few hexies over the last week.  However, the most significant progress I made was in nailing down more fabric.

First, I organized and picked all of the fabric for my son's hexie pillow he is making (with his help).  This free'd up fabric he was considering.

Second, check out my post from yesterday.  There is a fabric swap perfect for small squares of fabric (read 2.5" and less).

Terrain Wall Hanging - I decided how I am going to use my Charm Pack of Terrain.  I think I will wait until the top is completed before I take pictures.

Farmer's Wife - I have two blocks to finish this week.  I couldn't do it because I was narrowing down my available fabric.  I am good to go now.

Unnamed - (last week I called this Starry Eyes).  This one is on hold since I am not sure what direction to go in.

Crochet Doll

My littlest Baby Doll loves Lalaloopsy dolls.  Being two years old it is cute to hear her say Lalaloopsy.  Santa Claus brought her two new ones for Christmas, a little one for her dollhouse and a larger one.  Mom (me) made her a handmade crochet one.

First I will say that it is a stretch to say my doll looks like the store bought ones.  The pattern I followed has a picture of the doll that does look like Lalaloopsy.  I am not sure if it was the pattern or the user that created such a different looking doll.  This is the first time that the outcome of a crochet item came out so much different than my pattern.  I will admit I was a little disheartened and I almost threw her in the garbage, but I didn't.  I still am not in love, but do you know who is?  My Baby Doll!  She loves her.  This doll is one of her current favourites.  She cradles her like a baby, holds her by her hair , puts her to nap and all the other things little girls do with their dolls.  She even had me whip up a blanket for her.  So, without further ado....

Crochet LaLaLoopsy

On a side note, I decided to learn how to knit.  I received money for Christmas and used it to purchase Teach yourself VISUALLY knitting  an excellent book so far.  It is like going through a well thought out online tutorial.  The book arrived Thursday and Friday I bought knitting needles on the way home from work I made this washcloth Friday night.
I used cotton yarn made for wash cloths and was amazed at how much softer the knit version is compared to the crochet version.  My Baby Doll decided it was her wash cloth.  She carried it all around the house until it was dinner, then wanted to use it to clean up after we ate.  I really like it.  My oldest boy has already given me instructions on how he would like his knit hat to look:)  First I have to finish his quilt!

WIP Wednesday - five

I am back participating in Work in Progress Wednesday after a short Christmas hiatus.

Christmas Ornament - I finished everything I needed to.

Christmas Pillow - I finished the Peppermint Candy Pillow, inspired by this one.
Bathing Suit - Done.  I am very happy with it.  I don't have a picture, maybe I will share at a later date if anyone is interested.

Progress Made
Nearly Hexagon Charm Quilt - I only made a small amount of progress.  I love this one, but I don't make time for it, just fit it in when I can or when I need to relieve some stress.  You can follow my progress on my sidebar if you are interested.

Plain Spoken Quilt - Yay, I am going to take this one seriously now.  I made some progress on my blocks! I don't have a picture, but have made a promise to my boy that I will try to compete it before early February (It is his quilt to be).

Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt I started a quilt a long.  I have wanted to for a while and it worked out that this is a quilt that I would like to make.  You can join it here or check out the button on my sidebar.

Starry Eyes Quilt - I am not sure what I am doing here, besides making mistakes!  I showed you the scrappy blocks I made here.  I turned one of them into this star.  I plan to use my scraps and make more stars.  No real plan with this yet.

No Progress
Flurry Wall Quilt - Christmas wall hanging....I hope to make this sometime before next Christmas.

Farmer's Wife Quilt Along Block 1 and 2

Last year I heard about the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt.  I am very intrigued by it.  Happier Than a Bird Quilts is hosting a Farmer's Wife Quilt along and I decided to join in.  Check out her site to find out the details and see her Flickr group.

The first week we are creating blocks 1 and 2.  WOW, do I suck at quilting.  Some of the blocks are quite complicated in the quilt and I totally screwed up block 1.  For now I will keep it, but I will have to figure out whether it works in the end.  It is too small, only a little, but the seam allowance is small and my corners do not match.  Of course I will probably mess up most of them!  (The photo is cropped to hide the worse part).

I ordered the book with Christmas Money but I have not received it yet.  I know the book does not have instructions on how to construct all the blocks, but I am hoping inspiration kicks in when I receive it and I will have better luck and patience with future blocks.

Over the Top Pet Bed

If you were hoping to find a post about the New Year, I am sorry to disappoint you.  I struggle with writing, it has never been one of my strengths, so forming all those thoughts into words would not be easy for me.  Instead I will wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year and will move on to another one of my creations.

After making the dog bed for my sister, my children begged me to make one for our cat and dog.  Since I always love when I am asked to create, I jumped on it and purchased my supplies immediately.  My pets are now the happy owners of their new bed.
