Our house is filled with celebrations in February. On Saturday was the first of the parties. A friends party. Lots of kids, nine and under running around having fun.
Over the last few years I have learned that kids don't care about the cake. Some eat it, some don't. Either way, they don't pay a lot of attention to it. For me cupcakes seem to be the best solution. I get a better response from the kids and it is easier to serve them. This year I couldn't help myself, I had to kick them up a notch. While perusing Pinterest I found a link to this. I showed the kids and received the go ahead to make them.
I was thrilled with how they turned out. I used a Wilton cupcake recipe found here and a brownie recipe from the Joy of Baking website found here. Let me say, that is my new favourite brownie recipe and the combination of flavours when eating the 'hamburger' was fantastic. The 'fries' were sugar cookies.
The kids enjoyed them too. The hamburger and fries created a lot of conversation between them, making jokes and having fun with it. I threw away a lot of uneaten ones, but I am okay with that.
I made the trays using the template found on the Bakerella website. My daughter was a big help cutting them out for me. I found the waxed paper at Michaels.
Here are some of the hamburgers in Tupperware for transport to the party.
And, bucket of fries anyone?
They were a hit. Easy to do too.
