Knit Owl

One thing that I am very good at is procrastination.  I try very hard to overcome this and not pass this bad habit on to my children.  As you can see here, I am not always successful.  Here is my short tale of how this owl came to be.

One fine evening, two days before I had to have my local community club meeting minutes completed, I sat down at the computer.  I checked my mail, looked online and finally shut it down.  I did not even take out my notes....

I looked around the house, thought about all the laundry that needed to be done and toilets to be cleaned and then went to bed.

Insomnia hit at this point, likely because I knew I should be more productive.  Finally, deciding I better do something I opened up my brand new book, Amigurumi Animal Friends, picked up my knitting needles and some left over yarn and set to work.  I completed most of this adorable owl that night.  The rest I sneaked in over the next couple days because I just had to finish it.

As for the minutes.  I woke up at 4am to work on them.  No pain no gain?

Jersey Skirts

Can I say that I am in love with iCandy handmade.  I LOVE the jersey tutorials for kids and adults.  Today I am going to share three skirts I made using tutorials from their blog.

I will start with the two I made last year.  I made the ice cream social skirt for my niece, my daughter and myself.  It is such a simple skirt and looks great when it is finished.  I featured my niece's skirt here.  I never did take a picture of mine or my daughters, until this week.  Ours match, although we have not worn them at the same time, yet!
Mine

My Daughter
I used my serger on both of these skirts, matching the thread on my skirt and using a nice contrasting blue on my daughters.

One thing about a circle skirt is that it is very full, of course, and while I am happy with my skirt when I saw the Layer Cake Skirt on iCandy handmade last week, I knew I needed to make it.  I had the perfect fabric in my stash.  I made a single layer skirt for myself and love how it feels when it is on.

Front

Back
I should have paid more attention when I matched the seam on the waistband, but It will be covered with a shirt when I wear it.  On this skirt I used a double needle to finish off the bottom.

I have more jersey in my stash just waiting to be made into another great project from iCandy handmade.

My Garden of Whimsy Quilt

I finished my 3rd Quilt!  I must say, quilting is a little addicting.  I will have to slow down, because I am neglecting my "regular" household projects.

This quilt was a lot of fun.  I had no plan in the beginning, it evolved as I went.  Step one was to purchase two Terrain Charm Packs as an add on an online fabric order I made.  When I received them I immediately cut out 2.5" unique squares for my hexagon charm quilt.  Then I put the rest away.

One day, while procrastinating on another project, I pulled them out to play with.  I laid them out different ways and finally started to sew them together.  I sewed them into a square.  I still had no idea where this project was heading, again, I put them away.  At this time I started to dream about what this quilt would become.

Finally, I decided it had to be daisies.  That is my flower after all.  I thought the big white petals would be a great contrast on the colourful background.  Still, I knew this would not be enough.  Then I realized it would have to be a fairy.  Fairies, are playful, beautiful and whimsical.  All things that worked well with this fabric.

I framed it in white and used fabric from Kate Spain's Good Fortune line for the binding.

I found the perfect piece of fabric in my stash for the back.  I bought it on clearance for $2 about 6 months ago.  Unfortunately, it was a little too small, so I added a colourful bar code to finish it off.

Finally, I quilted it with loops and dragon flies.

I am glad I used such vibrant colours because the location I have chosen to hang it is a little dark.  Below is a picture of the wall it is hung on.  The left is the actual quilt and the right is the mirror image, which is what you see when you sit on the sofa in my living room.

I hope you enjoyed it.  I am linking up with freshly pieced, Work in Progress Wednesday.

Purse-in-Progress

I took a little break from my camera, which meant I took a little break from my blog, oops.

Here is a little glimpse of the purse I am currently working on.  I love it, but not as a purse.  It looks like a great toiletry bag to me.  I will however use it.  I am hoping once I complete the handle that it will come around for me.  The only picture I have is of my water lily, this is my attempt at giving it a little more character.
I drew a water lily with a disappearing pen on the bag, then proceeded to stitch using a back stitch.  There are some french knots in yellow near the center of the flower.  The pen I used disappeared a little too fast, so I ended up "drawing" with my needle and thread.  It was fun.

Complete Projects

Knit Hat(s)  I did it!  My second and third knit project.  I think they came out well.  I am in love with knitting in the round.  Next time, I will tackle a different pattern.  I used a simple pattern found here for these two hats.
This hat was for my husband.  Here he is modelling it for me:)
The next hat was made for my littlest girl, who begged me, "Please, make me a pink hat!"

Progress Made

My Garden of Whimsy Magic Garden Wall Quilt (previously named Terrain Wall Quilt):  I finished quilting and machine sewing the binding.  All I have left is to hand sew the other side of the binding.

Farmer's Wife: I completed a few of these blocks.  This is my most recent, and one of my favourites.
